OBEY is an asymmetrical multiplayer action game programmed in Unity by Daniel Dez.

Gameplay

"We've all played games where you command AI or send commands to team mates. In OBEY you are instead positioned to command your enemies (human opponents) - and to be commanded by them. Players are always free to obey/disobey, it is up to them to deal with the consequences of their actions in the game."

~Daniel Dez

In OBEY, players compete to earn the most money. Every player starts out as a bunny, and often try to wrestle for control of Robosaru, the dominating feature of the map. Controlling Robosaru earns Bunnies far more money over time than they would on their own, and comes with a large arsenal of weapons and mechanics to enforce rules onto the other Bunnies, or eliminate them when they misbehave.

However, many of these weapons and systems require the Bunnies to install in the first place, so Robosaru is often forced to part with their bloated income in order to convince the Bunnies to do their bidding. Robosaru cannot completely eliminate the Bunnies either, as they respawn quickly, and have plenty of mechanics at their disposal that they can use to cause mischief, such as interfering with Robosaru's income, using voice chat to psychologically manipulate Robosaru, or just straight out taking over if Robosaru is not guarding the door: a small, out of view opening, entering which causes the previous overlord to be removed from power.

Development

An early version of OBEY was initially showcased on Kickstarter on October 23rd, 2014. The campaign ran for a month and aimed to gain $78,000 in pledges. The campaign was a flop, yet Dez continued development on the game regardless.

On January 8th, 2015, OBEY was placed up for early access on the Humble Bundle Store for $17.99. Players who purchased early could download and play the game immediately, and were given an extra gift copy of the game.

On January 28th, OBEY was successfully Greenlit on Steam, and released as Steam Early Access on May 22nd, 2015. The price for the game was reduced to $14.99 on both Steam and Humble Bundle, and the early purchase extra gift copy bonus was removed.
